Multiform: Revolution in the parallel cultivation of shear-sensitive cells
“Multiferm” is an automated and easy-to-use 12- fixed-bed fermenter system ideally suited for the parallel cultivation of sensitive animal, human, and other shear-sensitive cells without a rigid cell wall. The system is suitable for use in the production of monoclonal antibodies, the cultivation of adherent and recombinant cells, as well as for cell physiological studies on tissue cells such as tumor cells, primary cells, stem cells, liver, and kidney cells.
“Multiferm” is equipped with the necessary measurement and control technology, probes and sensors, peristaltic pumps, a gas supply control program, and a computer for data storage, analysis, and transfer to other computers. It consists of 12 fixed-bed bioreactors, each with a working volume of 10 ml. The fixed-bed reactors are space-savingly mounted in the center of a compact 1.5 L medium conditioning vessel.
The 12- fixed-bed reactors and conditioning vessel are made of Duran glass. This allows for the observation of cell culture development for better control and monitoring. The lid, inlets, and outlets are made of robust PEEK material to protect the sensitive cells from damage caused by free metal molecules from common metal lids. The packed-bed material consists of highly porous sintered glass beads or another suitable support material and is located in the packed-bed reactors. The cells are transferred to the support material in the fixed-bed reactors, grow and multiply in, around, and between the supports, and can be used for further testing and investigations.
Depending on the cell type and cell cultivation conditions, the multiple fermenter system is ideal for the parallel cultivation of the same or different cell lines under the same or similar conditions.
The 12-fixed-bed fermenter system can be used for scientific research and testing in the medical, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and food industries.
