Fixed bed compact system
Compact fixed bed system starting at 5 ml with scale-up capability from laboratory to industrial scale. Immobilized, scissor-free cultivation of adherent cells in serum- or protein-free medium.
The difference between a stirred-tank bioreactor and a fixed-bed bioreactor is that the latter is equipped with propeller-like impellers. The stirring ensures even mixing of the cells. It is suitable for cultivating cells in suspension or cells insensitive to cell walls. A fixed-bed reactor has a scaffold material within the reactor to which the cells can attach and simultaneously grow, thus performing catalytic reactions to increase cell or protein productivity.
Axial and radial flow are two methods by which the cells or bacteria access the medium in packed-bed bioreactors.
